Plans announced earlier this year to raise the bar on Johne’s disease testing protocols will go ahead on 1 November, CHECS has confirmed.

With rule changes originally scheduled to come into effect on 1 October, CHECS chair Abi Reader says that working through outstanding issues has needed a little extra time.
“Back in June we outlined four areas that needed further investigation, such as which single ring test to use for faecal testing, and how the appeals process should work,” she explains.

“We’re close to making a decision on how to proceed with these, but have also taken time to over the past few months to discuss concerns about the upcoming changes with health schemes and stakeholders in the beef and dairy sectors.

“We can now confirm that the new rules for Johne’s disease testing will come into effect on 1 November and that more detail will be provided in the next few weeks to ensure everyone is clear about requirements by that point.”
